  Today I did the "1 Day Wine Tour in Rioja from Bilbao" for the full day and it was extremely disappointing. The tour was supposed to be a full day with 2 tours and tastings and then a 3 course meal. After already paying for the full day tour they informed my friend and I that we would not have lunch because the restaurant is closed for a holiday, but told us there would be plenty of other restaurants and tapas bars we could go to. They gave us a list of things to do and we were excited to go..... but when we got there Haro was a ghost town. The agency failed to inform us that the whole town shuts down on Sundays and Mondays and that not even the restaurants and bars are open. We could barely find somewhere to eat food. We thought it was because of the "holiday" but when we finally found a man to ask, he said that stores here are only open Tuesday through Saturday. Almost all of the attractions on the list of things to do were closed at well. The church was closed, the palace was closed, the museum was closed..... there was nothing to do. In addition to this, we ended up only having one tour instead of two. The day was extremely very disappointing since we were stuck in a ghost town for five hours with nothing to do until our bus arrived. If you want a tour where the agency will actually tell you about the city and give you some guidance, choose a different agency or do your own research. La Rioja is very beautiful and the one tour we had was cool, but be careful what day of the week you choose to go. If you plan on going, simply schedule tours directly with the wineries in the region, which you can find from a quick google search.
