  Just the kind of small bookshop you want to come across on your travels, packed full of great titles in English, French and Spanish (maybe others too, I was focussing on the latter!). Super-helpful staff to guide on choice of books and I now have a couple of worthwhile souvenirs. Highly recommended.

  The best bookstore I found in Madrid. An excellent selection of English language books, and very good Spanish and French literature, too. There is a small crime/fantasy section, but this is overwhelmingly a literary bookstore, and proud of it. Offering to stamp the books you buy is a great touch. And, if a book is considered part of "desperate" literature, you are given a shot of whisky, too. And then Bolaño is quoted proudly on a bookshelf, and we have a wonderful place.

  My favorite bookstore carrying English titles in Madrid. This small but vital bookstore is truly a place for all lovers of literature. The owners are very helpful, and I always meet cool people during their events. If you're looking for a place to find a good read, look no further than Desperate Literature!

  Fantastic little place, rich pickings. Super nice staff, speaking excellent English. Very sophisticated selection of books in English and French. Great place to spend and hour at least.
