The Reina Sofia Museum is huge. You can easily get lost in there for hours watching Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro paintings. Among hundreds of paintings there was interesting video installation, sculptures and other pieces of art. Reserve two to three hours to check two main parts in 2 and 4 floor. The rest is more contemporary and can be skipped as you have timetable that doesn't allow you full day expedition there. And by the way, the restaurant is amazing, located street level, nice casual feeling, surprising architecture. Bold and yet I felt good zen there. Also staff was attentive. Thanks for that!

This museum is different. Firstly the best piece is the marriage of the old building (the wife) with the new incredibly designed add on (the husband). The art is OK, but even with Guernica it didn't blow me away. The cubist exhibition was very good although I hear too many Picassos have made their way out of Spain into other collections. Still, it's worth a visit. Tickets were 10 Euros.

I'm probably not adding much to the conversation here by saying that this is one of the attractions that you should see if you're in Madrid. Regardless of whether you think you're into art the collection here is of such importance that it's worth a visit. If you can, visit during the paid hours as you'll find the galleries slightly less busy and all areas open for viewing. The layout of the exhibitions between the old and new wings of can be confusing enough without having to navigate around closed areas.

Definitely a beautiful place but I prefer the Prado. The Reina Sofia museum is a place for modern art which is quite often too abstract for me. However, I spent five or six hours there. So, it is interesting even if it's not my cup of tea. If you're the more modern-art-one you should give it a try. You'll probably love it.

All of the works have commentary in both English and Spanish but the video elements are usually subtitled in Spanish only.

For the sake of completeness: a very lovely restaurant is connected to the museum. Cool place with great people.

I only have a passing interest in art but found the collection here so valuable in understanding the events in Spain and Europe over the past century.

Personally it was the best art museum in Madrid. I had never been so shocked at any paintings before seeing Guernica here. Highly recommended!
